JOHN FORCE, 64, begins defense of his 16th series title on an Auto Club Raceway track on which he has won 15 tour events and on which he became the first Funny Car driver to break the 4.00 second barrier last November when he coaxed the Castrol GTX Ford Mustang through the 1,000 foot timers in a track record 3.985 seconds.  He has won the Circle K Winternationals two of the last four years.

BRITTANY FORCE, 27, brings her Castrol EDGE Top Fuel dragster back to the track on which she successfully began her drive to Rookie-of-the-Year honors and on which, during last fall’s Auto Club Finals, she drove to the semifinals.  She launches her sophomore season with veteran Todd Smith making the mechanical decisions in collaboration with Dean “Guido” Antonelli.

ROBERT HIGHT, 44, who has won the season-opening Circle K Winternationals in three of his nine career starts (2006, 2008 and 2011), will compete in the winter classic for the first time this week with veteran Mike Neff as crew chief on his Auto Club Ford Mustang.  The President of John Force Racing, Inc., Hight has won at least two Mello Yello tour events in each of his professional seasons.

COURTNEY FORCE, 25, returns to Auto Club Raceway as the defending Funny Car champion in the Circle K Winternationals, a race she won last year from the No. 1 starting position at the wheel of her Ron Douglas-prepped Traxxas Ford Mustang.  The 2012 winner of the Auto Club’s Road to the Future award, Courtney will be bidding for her fourth tour victory.

Traxxas Nitro Shootout

The first seven season winners in Funny Car and Top Fuel will earn automatic starting berths in the third annual Traxxas Nitro Shootout to be contested Labor Day weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis for a pair of $100,000 top prizes.

The eighth starter in each bonus race again will be determined by fan interaction and a lottery.  Courtney Force was the fan choice in 2012’s Funny Car race; her sister, Brittany, won the fan vote and lottery last year in Top Fuel.

John Force Racing has a long history of success in NHRA bonus races capped by John Force’s victory in the inaugural Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Funny Cars.

The team also won five Winston-sponsored All-Star races as well as the Big Bud Shootout and its successors, the Skoal Showdown and the U.S. Smokeless Shootout.  John Force earned the biggest single event payday in NHRA racing history when he won the 1999 Winston Showdown ($210,000) at Bristol, Tenn.
